Frequently Asked Questions

What is a credit score?
A credit score is a three-digit number that reflects your creditworthiness, essentially, how likely you are to repay borrowed money. The higher your score, the more trustworthy you appear to lenders. Credit scores are calculated using information from your credit report. Key factors include:

  • Payment history - whether you pay your bills on time
  • Credit utilization - how much of your available credit you're using
  • Credit age - how long you've had credit accounts
  • Types of credit - your mix of revolving credit, installment loans, etc.
  • Hard inquiries - applications for new credit that temporarily impact your score
It’s important to note that your credit score does not consider personal details like your age, income, employment status, marital status or account balance.

Will accessing Credit Score impact my credit and potentially lower my credit score?
No. Viewing your credit through Credit Score results in a soft inquiry, which does not impact your credit score in any way.

Will Eglin FCU use Credit Score to make loan decisions?
No. Eglin FCU uses its own lending criteria for making loan decisions, which includes a hard inquiry to assess creditworthiness.

If Eglin FCU does not use Credit Score to make loan decisions, why do we offer it?
Credit Score is a helpful tool for monitoring and managing your credit. By understanding your credit health, you can be better prepared when it’s time to apply for a loan, potentially qualifying for the best available interest rates.

What credit score is used in Credit Score by SavvyMoney?
The credit score you see in this feature is your VantageScore® 3.0, a modern and widely used scoring model. VantageScore® was developed by the three major credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) through a collaborative effort involving statisticians, analysts and credit data experts from each bureau.

Is Credit Score really free?
Yes! It’s completely free for Eglin FCU members. There’s no cost to access your credit score, credit report, or any of the tools and resources Credit Score provides.

What if the information provided by Credit Score appears to be inaccurate?
Credit Score displays data from your TransUnion credit report. If something looks incorrect, you can file a dispute directly with TransUnion by clicking the “Start a Dispute” link within Credit Score. If the issue is verified, TransUnion will update your report accordingly. We also recommend checking your credit reports from the other major bureaus (Equifax and Experian) at AnnualCreditReport.com. Each bureau has its own dispute process, so be sure to address inaccuracies with each one individually.
