EFCU has upgraded to Contactless Cards!

EFCU is excited to announce our new debit and credit cards are contactless! In addition to new card designs, your new card number, name and expiration date will now be on the back of the card. The number to activate your new card is 866.762.0558.

Contactless Cards

Contactless cards are here. Look for the symbol then tap and go! Fast, secure and convenient! Tap or hover your card just above the contactless symbol at the checkout. PINs and signatures are not needed at many merchants. Just tap and go.

Mobile Wallets

Contactless payment through your mobile device is another quick, secure, touch-free option. Simply add your EFCU contactless card into Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay to safely store your credit or debit card information. Shopping online and in apps has never been quicker! And it’s secure. A unique sequence of characters, also known as a token, is transmitted every time you pay, rather than your actual card information, so merchants do not have access to your card number, expiration date or CVV number.

CardControls

One of the best ways to protect your EFCU debit and credit cards is through the EFCU CardControls App. You have the ability to turn your card off and back on at your convenience. For example, turn your card off if it’s lost or stolen. If you haven't already downloaded CardControls, clicking the link in the Eglin FCU Mobile App will first take you to the store to download and install. Once installed, you will use the link in the Eglin FCU Mobile App to open and log in to the CardControls app. You can also set up alerts, set spending limits, set geographic limits and so much more. Go to eglinfcu.org/CardControls to learn more about this great service!

FAQs

What are contactless cards?
Contactless cards must have the contactless symbol on it: . The terminal where you are paying must also have the contactless symbol showing that it accepts contactless payments . The contactless cards are still EMV cards, which use a smart chip instead of a magnetic stripe to process data. They generate a unique code for every transaction, and that code is never reused. They still have the magnetic stripe on them in case a terminal is not contactless or chip-enabled.
What are the benefits of contactless cards?
It’s very fast and convenient! It’s quicker than using cash or inserting your card. Your card doesn’t leave your hand at checkout, so it’s less likely to get left behind. Many merchants do not require a PIN or signature, speeding up the checkout process. It’s ideal when you’re in a hurry to checkout.
How do I use it?
Instead of swiping or inserting your card, you simply tap or hover your card less than two inches over the payment terminal. The system is also known as "tap-to-pay." Most merchants do not require a PIN or signature so the payment process is quicker than cash or inserting your card. The terminals will not double charge if you hold it there longer than needed.
Where can contactless cards be used?
You can use your new contactless cards anywhere you see the contactless symbol at the checkout. You can also still use the chip and swipe features on your contactless card at locations that are not contactless. Contactless payment is available at many of your favorite grocery stores, retail stores, restaurants, gas stations or anywhere you see the contactless symbol. It’s easy, convenient, secure and touch-free!
Will the new contactless cards work at EFCU ATMs?
The contactless feature at EFCU ATMs will not be available until later this year. In the meantime, you can still use your card with the chip reader.
Will my old PIN work on the new card?
No, you will need to select a PIN when activating your new Debit or Credit card. Have your card ready and call 866.762.0558 (USA) or 501.588.7531 (International).
Why is the card number changing?
We are changing the card number to follow recommended network guidelines when upgrading from contact to contactless cards. Be sure to update your card information for any recurring payments you have and with online merchants that have your card on file.
When will I receive my new contactless card?
Contactless cards will be issued by expiration date. We know everyone is excited to receive their new contactless cards; therefore, we are accelerating the reissues. You will receive your new card before your current card expires, and it may be earlier than the expiration date.
Will my current card work after EFCU switches to contactless cards?
Yes, your current card will work.
How long do I have to activate my new card once received?
New cards should be activated as soon as they are received. The old card will expire once the new card has been activated or 30 days after the new card is issued, whichever comes first.
I received my card, but I have not received an additional cardholder’s card. When will it arrive?
The date of issuance is based on the expiration date so you may not receive an additional cardholder’s card at the same time. Cards will be mailed to the address on file for the cardholder, not necessarily the primary.
Do I need a protective sleeve for my new card?
No. It’s not possible for your data to be extracted by either long-range or short-range skimming. The radio frequency technology can only transmit properly within four centimeters or less from your card. Only a genuine Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminal can communicate with the card, and the smart chip technology uses a unique, one-time code for each transaction which secures the card holder’s information.
What if the card is lost or stolen?
Report a lost or stolen card to us immediately by calling Eglin FCU Card Services at 850.862.0111 and selecting option 1. If you use EFCU CardControls, you can disable your card right away to prevent anyone else from using it. See eglinfcu.org/CardControls for more information or to sign up.
